Frequently Asked Questions
Where do you normally have dental practices for sale?
We specialize in the St. Louis area - St. Louis County, St. Charles County and Jefferson County and the Metro East area - Alton, Edwardsville, O'Fallon, Belleville, etc. and locations nearby on both sides of the Mississippi River.
Where do you normally appraise dental practices?
Our experience is with general dental practices in the Midwest. We have recently appraised practices in Manhattan, Kansas, Lexington, Kentucky, Champaign, Illinois, as well as the Greater St. Louis area.
How long does it take to sell a dental practice?
The sales process really varies depending on the size, location and condition of a dental practice. A practice in a desirable location can sell in as little as 3 months. Smaller practices and those in smaller towns can take 2 years or longer to sell. There is not always a buyer for every practice.
I'm thinking of hiring an associate and selling him or her part of the practice in a year or so. When should I have my practice appraised?
You should have an appraisal before the associate joins your practice and you should have a pretty clear idea of what you are going to do with him or her. The answers to the following questions should all be decided before the associate starts working for you:
How long will they have to remain as an associate?
How will they be paid?
When can they buy in?
What will be the buy-in price?
How will you then work together?
Will I be able to finance the purchase of a dental practice?
There are several options available to a potential buyer and we will help secure the best financing available at the time.
What is your approach to valuing a dental practice?
As best I can, I try to arrive at the "Fair Market" value of your practice. I use the same approach whether I'm hired by the Seller or the Buyer. I don't value the practice higher because I'm working for the Seller or lower because I'm working for the Buyer.
